The tradedy when breast implants gone wrong

As with all surgery certain risks are inherent in breast augmentation, what are some risks when breast implants gone wrong? The decisions you make about your breast augmentation surgery and whether you regret it can be changed if you understand your risks.

Capsular Contracture is an abnormally tight scar. Scar tissues will form around all implanted materials, this is a natural process in the human body. The scar tissues that cause an issue is when it tightens. When you ask about bad cosmetic surgery results, scarring pictures of when breast implants gone wrong are a result of capsular contracture. An abnormal tightened scar is called capsular contracture. It can develop months or even years after the implant placement. There are different theories behind why this happens.

The risk of developing a capsular contracture ranges from 10 to 50 percent, depending on which study is quoted. It appears that 50 percent of women with implants get at least mild capsular contractures and 10 percent get severe ones.

Capsular contractures, regardless of severity, do not need to be treated unless the woman who has them seeks improvement. Capsular contractures were previously treated by a procedure known as closed capsulotomy. Closed capsulotomy was a nonsurgical office procedure in which the surgeon manually squeezed the implanted breast, sometimes with tremendous force. This disrupted the surrounding scar, thereby softening the breast. Plastic surgeons now condemn this procedure because its propensity to cause implant rupture, implant displacement, hematoma, unnatural appearance and redevelopment of capsular contracture. If your surgeon suggests closed capsulotomy, you may wisely choose to seek another opinion as you wouldn’t want to be part of the breast implants gone wrong profiles.

Current treatment involves surgical removal of the scar tissue and placement of a new implant. Recovery is similar to a first-time breast augmentation. If you have a moderate or severe capsular contracture, you may choose to undergo this operation. Realize, however that capsular contracture may happen again; additional surgery is not guaranteed to solve your problem of breast implants gone wrong cases. If your contracture is mild, as many are, you will likely chose to avoid surgery and simply live with it. Some plastic surgeons think implant exercises may improve mild contractures.
